  • 2025 Healthcare Study Tour to the Netherlands - Description of Visits

Jeroen Kemperman Jeroen is a Senior Manager Strategy & Business Development of Zilveren Kruis, the main private Health Insurance company in the Netherlands. During our visit Jeroen will explain how the Netherlands is able to pay for the largest part of the health care cost by private insurance. Every person in the Netherlands has compulsory private insurance which is normally directly paid from your wages.  During previous visits, Jeroen’s presentation was extremely well received and assisted in a better understanding in how the different models of care were able to exist.     WZH (WoonZorgcentraHaaglanden) location Transvaal, The Hague We will be visiting a small-scale multicultural (Somatic and Dementia) Nursing Home in one of the poorer suburbs of The Hague, Transvaal. Its inhabitants consist of 90% immigrants of Turkish, Moroccan, Surinamese, and Antillean descent. The nursing home consists of a number of units where six residents live around a shared living room. The specialist care team includes the community around them to collaborate, as they come in to help prepare their specific special cultural meals in the kitchen together with the residents. Mari Groenendaal, our host (lecturer in urban aging), has put a program together with a number of presenters discussing research and outcomes of their unique model of care.     Visiting 'Buitengewoon' The first reaction of those who visited 'Buitengewoon' during previous healthcare study tours was, “Can I stay here?” That is because Arjo and Marinel Buijs have created such a warm and caring environment for those living with dementia at their green care farm 'Buitengewoon'. In addition to day care, they provide 24/7 care for about 14 residents. They have a large garden, vegetable patch, large greenhouse, a number of different animals, and a dog as their physiotherapist to keep everyone mobile. The story of Arjo and Marinel is compelling and inspirational and, at the same time, convinces you that nothing is impossible for people living with dementia.     Frans Hoogeveen Frans Hoogeveen is a healthcare psychologist and dementia care specialist. Since 1990, he has been working for people with dementia and their loved ones. He is the author of many books and articles in the field of ageing and dementia. In research and clinical practice, he is involved in the following topics: Changing relationships in people with chronic illnesses Intimacy and sexuality in dementia Memory and learning ability in dementia: what is still possible? Scent applications in dementia Signal behaviour in dementia, ‘unmet needs’  Pain in dementia Previous participants of the Healthcare Study Tour and speaker in New Zealand in 2019, highly rated the presentations of Frans.     Anne-Mei The, Social Approach Dementia Anne-Mei The is the author of the Social Approach Dementia. Anne-Mei is a social antropologist and is a professor at The Free Amsterdam University in Long-term Care and Social Approach Dementia. She has instigated several social living experiments integrated with people living with dementia.     The Inn Keeper The Inn Keeper is a small-scale facility for people living with dementia in the middle of The Hague. It is located in a renovated old school building and still has the 1930/40s look inside. All residents (16) rent their own "classroom" as their apartment. They have a living room where they meet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have shared activities. The place is run by Jari and Claudia van der Toorn, and it is an inspiration to hear their story.     Vilans Vilans is the national organisation specialising in knowledge management for healthcare and support in the Netherlands. We want everyone to be able to live the life they want. This includes people who are dependent on care and support. We do this by sharing knowledge. Through the development, exchange, and application of knowledge, Vilans contributes to solving problems in healthcare and support.     TuinGezel Zoetermeer The Tuingezel, ‘garden companion’ is a day care center for people in the early stages of dementia, connected to a community farm in the middle of Zoetermeer, initiated and owned by Peter Hop. The focus is on visitors who are involved in meaningful activities such as making art, providing hospitality to people visiting the community farm, or taking care of the animals. They have a small shop where materials are sold to the wider public. It is a beautiful example of how people with dementia can still contribute to the society around them.

  • Closing the door on DAA Group's PO Box.

Change is inevitable, and in today's fast-paced digital world, traditional forms of communication are slowly becoming obsolete. This is evident in our recent decision to close our PO Box 5088 and embrace a more direct and digital approach to managing our mail. For years, DAA Group has relied on PO Box 5088 as a central location for receiving important documents, invoices, and correspondence from clients and partners. We would regularly check the PO Box for any incoming mail and ensure that it was processed promptly. After careful consideration, DAA Group made the decision to close their PO Box on April 1st 2023. From now on, please mail us directly at 218g Willis St, Te Aro, Wellington 6011. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact us.

  • Cyber-attack on DAA Group's IT Company

Our IT company has advised us that they are the victim of a cyber-attack. The cyber terrorists have accessed all of their servers, including their back up servers (which incidentally are held and secured completely separately), and the data is now being held to ransom. It appears that the information has been encrypted rather than stolen. The government, NZ Police and international agencies are all involved in finding a resolution. The IT company manages many large clients (much, much larger than us) and you may see information about this on the news. Fortunately, all that is affected for us is BORIS – our contact management and audit booking system. All of our emails and office, client and auditor files are held in a different place and are not affected by this. What has been breached is publicly available and non-sensitive information including names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers. No personal information is held on BORIS. It seems unlikely we will get this information back unencrypted from the terrorists. This is going to cause a fair amount of disruption to us, as we rely heavily on BORIS. Fortunately, we are well down the path of migrating to a new and more modern web-based version of BORIS. We will now expedite the ‘stand-up’ of BORIS 2.0 (which was going to occur mid-January) and are hopeful this will be to a stage where we can rely on the information in BORIS 2.0 within the next week or two. We ask for your patience during this phase. As you can imagine, we are absolutely gutted this has happened at the end of what has been a busy and stressful year. Please bear with us as we work through the migration and mitigate the issues associated with this attack. Please do get in contact with me if you have any concerns. • 4th Healthcare Study Tour to the Netherlands

The Health Care Study Tour 2022 to the Netherlands is on!! After two years of postponing we are extremely happy to announce that the 4th Health Care Study Tour to the Netherlands is on. It will take place from Sunday evening the 25th of September until Friday afternoon the 30th of September. The week's programme is balanced with presenters on various topics and visits to facilities that display innovative care for our elderly and those with dementia. You meet leaders who believe that, as all people are unique, the elderly and those with dementia also need to be able to choose from a variety of care options that fits their lifestyle and values in order to live a life worth living. As the Netherlands has a different healthcare system compared to New Zealand, it is also important that participants understand how the care for our elderly and those with dementia is financed. Therefore, we will meet presenters that provide you with insight on this often complicated topic. People who previously participated told us that: * *“ Extremely valuable week. Programme was excellent in its variations and content. Have got so much more out of it than i’d hoped.” (Dr. Kate Scott, Geriatrician)* * *” Jan and Marian put on a great tour and are to be commended for it. They were excellent hosts and looked after us very well. I got a great deal out of it and can’t recommend it highly enough.” (David Hall, CEO Cambridge Resthaven)* For our more recent comments via linked in click here We already have a number of participants coming on the tour but there is still room for a couple more. If you are interested please inform us as soon as possible Jan at Jan@care-metric.com (Mob: 021-897605). There is a limit of 12 participants. For more information on the 2022 Healthcare Study Tour to the Netherlands, please visit our website and or/ view the 2020 video below to hear what others have to say about the tour. Care-Metric has taken specific care of every organisational detail so that you can devote 100% of your attention to what is offered by the programme. Give us a call or email us when you require more information or have specific questions. The 2022 Healthcare study Tour to the Netherlands takes place in the week of the 25-30 of September. • In memory of Liz Faid

Dear friends It is with sadness that we inform you that our valued colleague and wise, lovely friend, Liz Faid passed away on Saturday. Liz was part of the DAA Group since its inception coming up 20 years ago. She first worked with Janice, then with Janice and Cathy, and since 2011 with all of the Groupies that have come and gone, and stayed since then. She fulfilled many roles within the DAA Group including Janice’s PA, client manager and Christchurch office manager. She was always a wonderful support and mentor to both Janice and Cathy. Many of you will know that Liz was diagnosed with cancer nearly three years ago. She did not want anyone to describe the last few years as a ‘battle’ for her. She is an amazingly strong and courageous woman who has lived her life with grace and kindness. Her funeral will be on Friday, 2 June at 11am. Moe mai rā, Liz. Rest in peace.
