Accreditation to Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment
Sector Standards

Green-arrow Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Sector Standard:
NZS 8157:2003

NZS8157:2003 Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Sector Standards has involved extensive collaboration between clients/tangata whai ora, alcohol and other drug service providers, practitioners, allied groups, the Ministry of Health and Standards New Zealand.

Being broad in scope, this Standard acknowledges the unique and complex needs of those who use alcohol and other drug treatment services, and the additional specific knowledge and skills required in order to deliver a service that is tailored to the needs of each person.  It also provides a tool for judging the quality of treatment delivery and support provided for clients/tangata whai ora.

The Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Sector Standard can be used by District Health Boards in contracts with providers of non-residential alcohol and other drug treatment services to ensure an appropriate quality of service.

The standards cover areas of:

small green arrow  Client/tangata whai ora rights

The Alcohol and Other Drug Board has approved the DAA Group to provide Accreditation to these standards.  This has been done to:

audits (approve final stage of individual's accreditation).
small green arrow  Reduce costs and maximise benefits.

The Certification Process

With the DAA Group your certification process follows a pathway:

    system. (Voluntary option)
small green arrow  Documentation review - checks the organisation has documented how it meets the requirements
    of NZS 8157.
small green arrow  On-site audit - checks the organisation has implemented effectively what it has documented.
small green arrow  Follow-up - the organisation responds to corrective action requests raised during the on-site audit.
small green arrow  Certification - lasts for three years and is then renewed.
small green arrow  Surveillance - a check at 18 months of parts of the standard to ensure ongoing compliance to the
